Raccoon in the attic?
May is the beginning of raccoon season here in the Atlanta area. Most of the raccoons we get called out to trap are pregnant females looking for a safe place to give birth and raise her young. Your attic is full of soft, comfy insulation and safe from predators and usually close to a food and water source. Raccoon babies are born May – June and average 3 – 4 pups in a litter. It is best to relocate the mother before the babies are born to avoid any damage to your attic. Raccoons will damage soffit areas and roofing as they make entry points as well as heavily soiling your insulation with urine & feces. Raccoons are carriers of several wildlife diseases including raccoon roundworm, distemper and on occasion, rabies. Raccoons also bring fleas and ticks into your home through you attic areas. Heavily soiled insulation would have to be removed in order to prevent the spread of roundworm and other parasites as roundworm can live in the droppings for years after the raccoons have been removed.
Our wildlife technicians at Critter Control of Atlanta have been trapping raccoons for years and are experts in restoring your attic to it’s original condition. This month we offer a free disinfection/sanitizing treatment with attic clean ups.
